Kate Moran

Hello St. Anthony East Neighbors! I purchased my very first home in our neighborhood and love living here with my dog and two roommates. I joined the SAENA Board of Directors six months ago to fill an existing open seat. Since joining I have been invested in establishing a Transportation and Mobility Committee and hiring our new Executive Director. I am running for the Board to continue work for our shared neighborhood. My primary interests and priorities include (1) transparent and informed decision-making; and (2) coordination and collaboration with St. Anthony East neighbors, public partners, and/or adjacent neighborhoods. In addition, I think we need to continue building and refining our strategic financial planning and diversity, equity, and inclusion planning to ensure the long-term sustainability of the neighborhood and SAENA.
In terms of my past experiences, I served 4 years on two Denver neighborhood organizations, served on the WalkDenver Board which encouraged the City and County of Denver to establish its Vision Zero Policy, and my professional career working with land and water policy development. I am currently studying for the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) exam which is a nationwide certification to uphold high standards of planning practice and knowledge, ethics, and commitment to professional planning.

Mitchell Walstad

My name is Mitchell Walstad, I'm a new resident of St. Anthony East, and I'm very excited about the potential of serving on the SAENA Board! I've already been so encouraged by the community that exists in our neighborhood and how welcoming everyone has been, and I'd like to contribute to the great energy in St. Anthony East and help ensure our neighborhood is enjoyable and accessible for everyone. I've worked in politics for the past several years, both at the State Senate and on political campaigns around the metro area. I know my skills in organizing my neighbors and peers would be incredibly useful in allowing us to advocate most effectively together: whether that's to ensure our neighborhood remains affordable, to increase transit access and options, maintaining and expanding our green spaces, and any other collective needs we have. Outside of work, I spend a lot of time with my dog, often at the St. Anthony Parkway dog park. I'm an Eagle Scout and stay involved with scouting, I'm a huge board game nerd, and a bit of a fiend for all things Northeast Minneapolis. I'm looking forward to meeting you all and working together!

Brenda Kayzar

Hello Neighbors! I am Brenda Kayzar and I’ve lived in SAE since moving to Minnesota in 2007. I am an urban geographer and consult with cities and organizations on equitable economic development practices. I’m also affiliate faculty with UMN and have been researching and teaching about revitalization, gentrification, and the creative economy and creative placemaking for several decades. I’ve been tangentially involved with SAENA for about 10 years – since being invited to participate in the small area planning process. I served on the park committee during its revitalization and helped develop the rain garden. I joined the board (virtually!) in 2020 and have been active in the reorganization that established formal committees and practices. I’ve served as secretary and am chair of the membership committee. I would like to continue the work of inviting more members of our community to participate in community events and activities that make SAE a great place to live and work, and to support our new executive director in her success!

Phil Jones

Phil Jones is a designer and community advocate. Phil has been a homeowner in SAENA since Dec 2018 with his wife and two dogs. Phil has served on the SAENA board for the past two years. In the last year, Phil served as board chair, playing a key role in hiring SAENA's new Executive Director while also representing SAENA in the Four Corners Collaboration as part of the steering committee. Phil knows how vital this organization and its work is and hopes to have the opportunity to do more for everyone living in Saint Anthony East.

Erianna Reyelts

As the Associate Director of Children’s Dental Services (CDS), based in Northeast Minneapolis, I have had the great privilege of working closely with the Saint Anthony East neighborhood for the last 10 years.  CDS provides critically necessary oral health services to 37,000 patients annually across the state of Minnesota.  CDS had two brick and mortar clinics in Northeast Minneapolis and one in Duluth, plus more than 700 mobile-based sites across the state including a robust presence in the Saint Anthony East community. One of CDS’ greatest qualities is its internal leadership training and ability to mentor staff from interns to senior leaders, which is my story with this wonderful company.  I began as a Public Health intern during college at Gustavus Adolphus College and upon graduating, joined CDS as a Public Health Outreach Specialist.  After holding nearly every role at CDS (non-clinical of course!), I have been part of the leadership team at CDS for the last five years.
When I am not working with CDS’ wonderful team bringing essential oral health care to Minnesota’s most underserved communities, I am a volunteer Scottish dance teacher, a Soprano in a choir, and I can often be found working out at Straightline Dance Fitness (a woman-owned and operated Northeast Minneapolis fitness studio!).
Both personally and professionally, I support and value SAENA’s mission and its work building relationships with community members and supporting neighborhood vitality in the St. Anthony East neighborhood of Northeast Minneapolis, Minnesota. I feel both that I can contribute to the success and vision of SAENA while also learning and growing from the fantastic work that SAENA is doing.  Additionally, the work being done at SAENA with mobility and transportation and the environment are powerful things for a community and improve not only quality of life but overall health.  This work aligns with the work CDS does in that improving oral health, improves overall health. I believe that in becoming a member of the SAENA Board of Directors I could help further the unified missions of improving the health and wellness of this important community.
Joining the Saint Anthony East Neighborhood Association board of directors was a huge honor and if selected to remain in this role, I look forward to continuing to serve this fantastic community in new ways!
