Hennepin County, in partnership with the City of Minneapolis, repaved Broadway Street Northeast from Marshall Street (County Road 23) to Stinson Boulevard (County Road 27) starting on October 14th, 2019.
As part of the planning for this repaving project, the county, city, and neighborhood residents formed a task force. The goals of this task force are to develop a short-term and long-term vision for improved safety and comfort along the corridor. Since Fall 2018, Hennepin County and partners have been working on a corridor study of ways to improve safety for all people using this road. The study identified design needs and concepts. More than 1,000 participants have provided input for this project through surveys, task force meetings, and an open house. The task force study group includes representatives from each of the seven neighborhoods in the Broadway Street Northeast corridor.
The next Broadway Street Task Force meeting is:
Thursday, November 14 from 6:30-8pm at Clare Housing (929 Central Ave). The study group meetings are also open to all interested residents – contact any of the study contacts for more information.
As crews repaved the area, they also made the following changes to the roadway:
-Converted the 4-lane roadway between 4th and Jackson streets and between Tyler and Lincoln streets to a 3-lane roadway (one lane in each direction with shared center turn lane)
-Installed a test closure median at Tyler Street to prohibit left turns
-Converted the road to one lane in each direction at the railroad bridge near Buchanan Street
Crews are anticipated to return in 2020 to complete the following:
-Repaving between Broadway Street between Lincoln Street and Stinson Boulevard Northeast (County Road 27)
-Making intersection modifications at Johnson Street to improve sight distance for left-turning vehicles
