The final results from the petition to install 22 street lights on Madison St and Spring St (from Jefferson to Monroe) are in. The petition did not pass, as 27.6% of property owners voted “Yes” and 27.2% voted “No”. The remaining 45.2% of the affected property owners did not return the petition. At least 70% of property owners in the assessable area needed to return the petition in support of the project for it to go through.
Over the past year, volunteers and staff from SAENA talked with property owners on these two streets to gauge interest in this project. There was enough support to warrant an official petition from Public Works, mailed to every property owner in the affected area, to ask whether they support the project or not. Though the petition did not pass, it was a great opportunity to engage residents and talk about what their priorities for the neighborhood are. SAENA thanks the committed residents who reached out to their neighbors and helped solicit input on this issue.
